Well hallelujah, Christof!
Y’all know I’m only partially not-serious when I talk about the Robogeddon that is coming. I’m actually less scared of a Terminator-esque future and way more worried about the government or military’s ability to destroy with even less confrontation of humanity in their way. We already see such brutality inflicted– even person to person– like all over Turkey right now, where you can see police just brutalizing people, maiming them, putting them in comas with point-blank tear-gas cannisters to the head, and threatening to rape them.
We are not there yet. We do not yet have fully autonomous, roboticized death machines. We only have the human controlled kinds, like drones and robot patrols. But, the world is fast moving toward a future of even more automated machinery. We show no signs of slowing, we show no signs of thinking twice about our choices.
I don’t want to live in a future where robots can destroy us without hesitation and without oversight. I don’t even like the present where robots kill us because humans told them to. I hope Christof Heyns is successful in his bid to outlaw autonomous killing machines.
