Robot yang sering terlihat di televisi ini acapkali membuat kita takjub Remember Watson, the computer (AI?) that won Jeopardy and brought all
of us to heel in a robot Armageddon? Oh, wait, that hasn’t happened
yet. No, no…. but, seriously, remember Watson, the computer that (who?)
won Jeopardy and showed the world that our efforts toward Artificial
Intelligence were improving? It turns out he’s as foul-mouthed as I
am! Who knew a program running in a silicone world could understand me
so well?
Watson was not showing enough skills in reaching his overlord’s goal
of having him (her? it?) pass the Turing test. The Turing test, for all
of you not geeky enough to know, is the test developed by the gay
genius, Alan Turing, to determine if an Artificial Intelligence could
pass for human. Turing’s test is notoriously prepared to warn us of our
imminent doom when the day comes for our robot rulers to take over.
Ok, no. But seriously, yes.
So, as Watson slammed Jeopardy opponents mercilessly, he was lacking
the oompha necessary to reach Takeover Level: Code Red. What he really
lacked in the Turing skill-set was the ability to casually chat with a
human and not be spotted as an outcast by his lack of lay language.
That’s right, he couldn’t use slang and shorthand and abbreviations and
all the other things we do without noticing. His overlords decided
there was no better cure than to upload the Urban Dictionary into his
repertoire of vast knowledge.
